The detergent is applied or sprayed onto the surface and the dirt is wiped away by hand or with a telescopic arm. The result is often striking: gutters can look close to brand new. The outcome depends on the gutters' material, age and how ingrained the dirt is. Paint splashes do not come off with this wash.
